  • Now we are going to be history

Sanju, 23 yo, Star of Yummy Paharganj, Tour Guide in Old Delhi What I feel in this crisis is that I used to read big events in history books but now we are going to be history. I'm worried, India is the second most huge population in the world and we are not prepared at all. The second challenge is to survive as well, many local vendors increased the consumer maximum retail price. To speak about me, I was born in Old Delhi, which was a slum area between Red Fort and Yamuna river, where I had a big family : my grandparents and their children and us. It was demolished in 2003 when I was 6, I ran away from my parents, stayed on the street for four years. I went to Salaam Baalak Trust (a NGO which takes care of the street children of Delhi until their 18 by giving them a place to live and access to education) when I was 10, then left in 2016 when I was in a senior secondary school and dropped out of school (my family were helpless for me, my mom has 10 children, two of my sisters are married and younger ones now go to school, I'm the eldest). In April 2016 I entered LP4Y and it played an important role in my professional life. I had and still have many opportunities thanks to this. Today my parents live in a rented room and I live next to them. They don't have any ID cards either and in reality I do parents ' duty, I take care of my siblings, I pay their school fees and education stuff, with the help of my younger brother who passed LP4Y as well after me, he also works. In my neighborhood people are passing their days like in normal situation, they don’t practice social distancing and don’t wear mask, but on the main street (a road), situations are under the control of the police, people go to their home when police come there, still they are not very familiar with the Covid-19 outbreak. There are few people who don't have any ID card, they didn't receive any cereal from the Gouvernement. Since this vast virus is spreading everywhere, I can no longer take responsibility for the family, I still have little money in my account but after a few days I will be bankrupt. Nowadays we don’t have enough hygienic stuff like soap, here people usually drink tap water or hand pump water. One big problem of our area is that we don't have free education resources, many people are uneducated plus unemployed.

  • 3 advises for the Youth

Olivier Pauchard General Manager of Belgo Ho Chi Minh City, Vietnam Mr Olivier Pauchard Mr Phạm Minh Khang Ms Trương Hải Yến I am Olivier PAUCHARD, the General Manager of Belgo – The Belgian Brewery so concretely in charge of all F&B operations in our 2 Belgian gastropubs located in district 1 & district 3. Our mission at Belgo is to celebrate and share the Belgian culture, beers and cuisine. We want to create memories for our guests and ourselves, elevate the standards in the restaurant industry but also develop a secure and ideal work environment for all our employees. We partner with LP4Y since 2017 as we shared the same goal: create a social impact! As a partner, we had the pleasure to welcome LP4Y organization quite a few times in Belgo through different projects (internship, role play, interview’s preparation) and it actually kindles some Youth’s hospitality interests. Several Youth passed by our company over the years in order to learn about the F&B industry and all of them were motivated and dedicated to the company. Miss Yen and mister Khanh are now among my key employees in Belgo and this wouldn’t have been possible without a good preparation in the LP4Y center. Should I give 3 advises for the Youth that are now building their professional career, I’ll say: 1) It’s important that you love what you do: Be invested, be present and be the best you can be 2) Failure isn’t a bad thing If you learn from it and continue to move forward, it can lead to great things 3) You need to want it Entrepreneurship, along with many things in life, can be hard. If you really want it then you have to fight for it. We are not only here today to say goodbye LP4Y but also to say a big “THANKS”. Thanks for putting on our road all the Youth you welcomed in your center. Thanks for what you brought to them and what you brought to us as well. Being an actor of the organization’s development was a memorable experience and I couldn’t be more satisfied knowing that your involvement has positively impacted the Youth lives.

  • Thanh Nguyen - My experience with LP4Y

Thanh Nguyen, 28 yo, Star, Woodies Program Life Project Center Hanoï, Vietnam My name is Thanh. I grew up in a poor family. I had to quit school early because of my difficult family situation. I am a quiet person, and also I am shy when I have to communicate with others. I didn't have a stable job before joining Life Project For Youth (LP4Y) foundation. In LP4Y, I learned the English language, computer skills, making bamboo handicraft products, and how to make cakes. Besides, the center also organizes extracurricular activities to visit companies in the field of restaurants, hotels, accounting, craft workshops... That's why I have gained new knowledge and insights into these fields. They will help me to prepare for a suitable job in the future. After three months of studying at the center, I understood the sentences in English and could talk with the coaches. I felt more confident and happy when I worked with everyone. I was used to my work at the center: knowing how to use a computer and other tools to help me and the other members of my team to complete tasks quickly and more efficiently. Thanks to that, I was able to prepare the necessary skills to apply for my favorite suitable job. The coaches helped me understand the importance of time. They help me make plans for the future. These plans will help me easily to reach the targets I want. Making plans and team-work are two soft skills I get when I joined the LP4Y training. They helped me to develop myself in work and study. The most important thing, I have rediscovered my worth when I joined the project of the LP4Y foundation. That is a miracle of love, sharing, caring, sacrifice... that the coaches, volunteers, and members of LP4Y gave to me. From A quiet guy, and shy when communicating with people, I became an open-minded and confident person. I have a stable job and have a dream for myself. Today, when I know the LP4Y foundation will stop operation in Vietnam. I felt very sad and regretful. LP4Y is truly a great environment for young people in difficult situations to overcome their obstacles to integrate into society. Get a suitable job to live and help their families. Become a useful person for family and society. Best wishes and the most sincere thanks to everyone : * The founder of the organization: Mr. Jean-Marc Delaporte * The coaches: Mrs. Pauline, Mrs. Mariam, Mr. Ariel, Mr. Timothy, Mr. Gautier, Mrs. Camille, Mrs. Roxane, Mr. Robin, Mrs. Clarisse, Mr...., Mrs.... * The volunteers: Mrs. May, Mr. An, Mrs. Hai Tran, Mrs. Dung, Mrs. Chi, Mrs. Phuong, NEU-National Economics University. * The English teachers: Mr. Bill Tam, Mrs. Trang, Mrs. Elizabeth Buot, Mrs. Hong Thanh, Mr. Minh Vuong. * Lawyer and Baker teachers: Mr. Duc, Mr. Hai And there are many other volunteers who have helped us physically and spiritually during the time that LP4Y was active in Vietnam. These are beautifully and meaningfully actions, we are so grateful for them. THANK YOU VERY MUCH! BEST WISHES!

  • My experience with LP4Y

Vũ Sơn Quân Revival Program Ho Chi Minh, Vietnam Hello everyone, I am Quân, I am 23 years old and I am living in Gò Vấp District. Before I joined the LP4Y center, I studied at the university but the economy of my family was not enough and I realized I did not want to study. So I decided to work at a restaurant for over 1 year and I acquired a lot of experiences about service. After a long time working there, I realized that I needed to change my life. I could not continue while I did not have a stable job. It was just a temporary job to earn money for my daily life and support my family. a I decided to join the LP4Y center when my friend told me that LP4Y will help me to change my life. I trust him without any doubt. It is true, I could not believe everything I was seeing. That was better than I thought. Everything was good and my life changed from that. I joined a special team. It is Revival team. The meaning of the Revival team is Rebirth, recycling wood and making handmade products from it. I learned a lot of things from the team : proactive, attitude, teamwork, creative, carefull, calm down, responsible, collaboration, mindset, manage, organize work, design, behave. But everything is not easy, I needed to overcome it all. Because it was the first step in my life to change. It was hard to hear English when they were speaking, when I did not know how to make products from wood. I was scared when I had to stand in front of people to present my presentation because I have a disease and fear crowds, it was the hardest I had to overcome. After 5 months, I could hear 70% of conversations and speeches of the coach about a lot of topics and to help me to be more professional. I could learn English, computer skills, how to write a professional email, how to make a professional resume, how to make a product from recycled wood. I was feeling more confident when LP4Y center organized events for Youth to sell products from the Revival team to customers. My team and coaches helped me a lot and everything I tell is the truth. I can not imagine that I can speak English and do a lot of things I ever do. The center creates a professional environment for Youth to discover the whole world. After 9 months in the center, it was time to say goodbye because my PTE was finished. I have been able to find a job with support from the center. Now, I have a job. I am a Human Resources Officer. LP4Y volunteers had a meeting with the HR Manager from the company Expeditors, which is a partner of LP4Y. So, I had the opportunity to pass an interview and they told me I will start work at Expeditors. You know what? When they told me that I can work at the company Expeditors, I felt so happy and I thought that my life was about to change in the near future. I work there over 2 months and I learn a lot of things about HR. I am so happy because now I have a stable job. I am really proud of myself. I want to thank all the coaches and Revival team with gratitude for helping me in the past. All you are so kind. I hope all of you will be happy like me and will have a good life in the future. Take care!

  • Cu Thi Vang testimony - Hanoi

Cứ Thi Vang Bread & Smiles Program Hanoi, Vietnam Hello everyone, my name is Cứ Thi Vang from Muong La district, Son La province. In 2019, when I graduated from Medical College in Son La, my dream was to improve my English as this is an international language widely used. I wanted to be fluent in English so I can exchange my professional knowledge with international friends and be able to know more about medicines of foreign origin. I learned about LP4Y on Facebook and found out that this is a 9 months program that can support me to find a job in Hanoï. It was a great opportunity for me to leave my province and achieve my goal. Since I joined the center, my English has improved a lot. Here I have direct contact with foreign coaches who are very enthusiastic and helped me a lot in the process of learning. I also received additional training in how to use computers and participated in the bakery activity of the center. I am very happy because not only the center has helped me but also a lot of other youth. We have the opportunity to learn English and look for jobs after completing the program. Everyone can learn as long as we want and try. After I finished the program, I started to look for a job with the help of the coaches. I was looking for a position of pharmacist in Hanoï. I had a lot of difficulties in applying for jobs because I just graduated from school and I don't have any experience in selling medicine. In addition, I was born with congenital hemangioma, so half of my face is covered with a birthmark. Due to this condition many pharmacies refused my application or offered me a position as a trainee with no salary. They told me that being a pharmacist involved cosmetology and that it would be difficult for me to sell this kind of product with my disease. During my job search, I applied to many pharmacies but they all declined my applications. I cried a lot. I told my coach and she gave me some advice. Then I told myself “I am a strong person, I can achieve my dream, there is no need to be in a hurry, eventually, I will overcome my problem ”. After more than one month of looking for a pharmacist position, I decided to take an opportunity for a job in a restaurant where one of my LP4Y teammates is working. I decided to stop looking for pharmacies and pharmaceutical companies because I want to earn money to have facial surgery. For now, I think it is my only way to have a job in a pharmacy. Although I do not work as a pharmacist, I will try to fulfill my dream. I hope after I have enough money for my face surgery I will return to being a pharmacist. This is the job I decided to study because I want to learn how to help people, bring the best medicine and knowledge to protect everyone's health care. I always get the motivation from my family to not give up on my dream even if there are difficulties, even when something unhappy happens. I still try to continue to overcome the difficulties and achieve my dreams in the future. So I want to share with everyone my story and tell them: “If there are any difficulties please don't give up trying. We will be able to do it if I can do it everyone can do it. I believe that we are all born with our own dreams and difficulties so don't give up when there is trouble, don't give up when no one is helping you because no one is born with everything. Achieve your dream! Sincerely thank everyone for listening to my story.

  • How helping the community made our first week back to training even more special

In Hanoï, the Youth of the Bread & Smiles prepare and sell pastries in a training coffee shop located near their center. Their menu includes baguette, croissant, pain au chocolat and several sweet and salty cakes. The coffee shop as well as the center had to close due to enhanced social distancing implemented in Hanoï. By the time activity at the Centre was resumed, a major job was waiting for them! On May 5th, after almost two months being closed, our center in Hanoi was ready to open its door again. We were really excited to welcome the Youth again in the center but we knew it was gonna be a challenge to find a “new normal” after this exceptional time. Since late March we had not seen the Youth because they had to come back to their hometown in the North, a six-hours bus ride away from Hanoï. On the first day of training, we received an order for 140 baguettes from Hai, a local entrepreneur to give to Homeless Hanoi. Homeless Hanoi is a frontline community campaign helping to feed, clothe, protect, educate and provide first-aid to the poor, homeless and underprivileged throughout Hanoi. They meet every Thursday evening to do some social round-up. Because of the lockdown it was very difficult for the poor and homeless around Hanoi to access food, sanitation and basic essentials. Many charities providing essential support have been unable to operate efficiently and this took a devastating toll on the poor and homeless. That is why Hai decided to help this community and thought about Bread & Smiles. In this first week, G. Sua, 19 years old, a manager from Bread & Smile 2, was the first one to be able to come back to Hanoï. G. Sua being a former head of the production department we informed her about the order and asked her if she felt ready to make bread again. Here is her answer : “ I was excited because we haven't been working in the center for a long time. But I also felt quite nervous because we needed to make a lot of bread and I thought we would need a long time to make it. Finally we worked together to find out how many recipes it takes to make 140 breads. We calculated the time we needed and decided to prepare 2 recipes together to save time, after 9 recipes we have completed the order. I was really happy and motivated to do so because our products will be received by the homeless.” 140 baguettes is one of the biggest orders we received and it took us two days to finish it. And because the team was not complete, the coaches had to do their part in order to achieve this exceptional order. Isaline Coach of Bread Smile 2 arrived in February and have only seen the Bread & Smiles working for a couple of weeks before the lockdown. “For this first week, I was glad to be able to work with the Youth again and accept this challenge of making 140 baguettes for the homeless of Hanoi. While making the bread I realized how skilled our Youths are in baking. I was impressed by their technique to knead the dough.” On Thursday evening, our baguettes were ready to be distributed to the homeless of Hanoi !! Axel, head of the Homeless Hanoi picked them up just before their weekly social round-up. Mr. Hai’s orders were a really nice challenge and gave the whole team a purpose after several weeks shaken up by social distancing measures. This collaboration was such a success we decided to do it again the week after and bake again 120 baguettes! Témoignage de Nguyen Kim Hai , owner of a local restaurant : https://www.facebook.com/mr.nguyenkimhai/posts/1865887880213848 Having a chance to cooperate with LP4Y- Bread and Smiles during the historical Covid-19 pandemic in Hanoi is an unforgettable memory. Thanks to the team I have spent a lot of time under the 40°C Hanoi crazily hot summer, the oven these days is as hot as a volcano. Your hardworking and delicious bread helped hundreds of Hanoi’s homeless people prevail Covid-19, contributed to the world's most successful pandemic fighting result of Vietnam and made this world better. Thank you very much for your cooperation!

  • Drawing is my life

Thu Bui, 18 yo, Star, Life Project Center Ngoc Ha,Vietnam Hi, I’m Bui Thi Thu and I come from Hai Duong Vietnam. I first started drawing when I was still a kid. I drew everything on every wall in the house and my mom didn’t like it so she repainted the house all the time. As I grow older, I want to study graphic design and now my dream really comes true. After I graduated from the Management Step of B&S Hanoi last year, I spent my savings from the LPM to pay for the tuition fee at a graphic design school. Here are some of my drawings, hope you enjoy it.

  • How does LP4Y accompany me to catch my dream

Trinh Truong Yen My, 19yo, Management Step, Revival Program Life Project Center Go Vap, HCMC, Vietnam I come from a countryside called An Giang Province. I used to be unaware of my life. I used to be disappointed about myself because of failing to apply for university. I used to be a person who doesn't have any directions for the future. I used to be like that until I moved to Ho Chi Minh City and knew of LP4Y. For me, LP4Y is such a helpful organization that they changed my life. First of all, they have supported me for the living expenses by weekly allowance. Thanks to that, I can pay for the rent, food, water and essential commodities myself while I am living far from my family. Secondly, thanks to LP4Y, I had some plans that I have never thought about before. Through the guidance as well as the help from the coaches and volunteers, I understood how to think about my dream job logically and make it come true. In particular, I would like to be an English teacher. I have to start getting experience by working for language centers or the international companies/ organizations. Besides improving my English skills, I can adapt with the environments which combine languages and cultures. So I am aware of my targets. I am reviewing for the entrance exam of some universities in Vietnam so that I can work as a teaching assistant or a teacher. Fortunately, the coaches and volunteers always listen to me and give me the best advice as a specialized supervisor. Besides, they have also inspired me a lot in volunteering. So I am going to get the internship at Poussieres de Vie, another French NGO in Vietnam, next time as both a teaching assistant and a volunteer. I wish I can dedicate and get more experience as well on this step. Moreover, LP4Y is such an amazing environment for me to practice English. I can approach English 5 days per week with foreigners as well as Vietnamese. Throughout 6 months I have joined LP4Y, my English is coming along very well. I sometimes have the chance to become an interpreter for my coaches and volunteers when they want to connect with the local community. I am very excited about this experience. In addition, LP4Y is a big family. I have met a lot of people who come from LP4Y's volunteers from other countries, LP4Y's partners, my coaches and all the youths in our center. All of them are very friendly and helpful. They have also given me the motivations and happiness everyday because I believe that Together We Can. Especially in the coronavirus period, although we cannot go to the center as usual, I still have received their support as well as their attention. I feel more secure when I always have them besides me. Last but not least, I realize that the main key of my life is myself. So I always make a great effort and encourage myself to keep going on my plans. I hope that the youth of all LP4Y’s programs will always believe in themselves and never give up on their project. I know that I am not alone in the way because I have a big family besides. I do appreciate them and I would like to thank them for all the support that they have given me.

  • My journey from the countryside of Vietnam to Decathlon

Thiên Nguyễn, 23 yo, Management Step Revival program, HCMC, Vietnam What did I do before LP4Y Everyone has a story of his life, me too. So I will tell you about my story. I hope my story can inspire you a little bit. I was born in the countryside of Vietnam, in Dong Nai province. The place is poor, almost everyone here are farmers. It’s so far away from the city. When I was 14 years old, I couldn't continue living in my home town because my father died. Therefore, my family didn’t have enough facilities for me to continue going to school. At this time everything was falling down, I was through my life to the end. But my mom never gave up, she helped me to keep going to school. The miracle came up when an orphanage in the district 12 of Ho Chi Minh City allowed for me to come there to live and continue going to school. I am grateful for that until now. If I didn’t come to the orphanage, I think my life would turn another way, not a good way like now. In 2016, I completed my program in high school. Then I entered university, majoring in Automobile Engineering Technology (college) in 3 years. After 2 years of studying, everything was happening good but I started thinking about my career in the future after I graduate. I really didn’t like it, I spent many hours thinking about what I should do, keep going or stop learning. Finally, I decided to stop learning because I didn’t want to choose this work, I wanted to change my major and control what I want to do for my life. I feel more comfortable than when I learnt at university. So I went to find a job. I worked for a while as a driver for the company Grab. At this time I really was in love with this job because I was working without pressure, the working-time was flexible, I could work however I wanted. One more thing is that I went to a lot of places and met all kinds of people instead of just staying at the company and doing something boring. Moreover, I had the chance to meet some people who come from other countries. It allowed me to talk and learn english from them. On the whole, I was so excited with this job. Nevertheless, 6 months later, I realised that everything was not like I thought before. I asked myself “everything is good at this time or not? Do you think you will have a good future if you continue to work for Grab?”. In my mind, a lot of questions came up like “Should I continue or should I find another way for my life?”. This time was one of the most difficult times of my life. Because I thought “This job is very good but doesn't help me to have a good future, it is just suitable for someone who wants to earn money immediately and wants to live easily’’. Then I looked back at myself, I am still young and just 23 years old and also, I needed to find out what I really wanted to do for my life and what was my dream job. Finally, I decided to stop working for the company Grab and I joined LP4Y thanks to my friend who introduced me to the organisation. After one month, I stopped working. What did LP4Y bring to me I have been at LP4Y nearly eight months and my step in the program is management. I am really thankful to the LP4Y program because it helps me to improve a lot of things very important such as : English, IT, communication with foreigners, how to be professional, work with the team and manage my time, my life. It also helps me to find out which way I need to go and what is my dream. When I am learning at LP4Y, my life is stepped into the page and now I have a part-time job at Decathlon’s company. I work as a sport advisor and I love it very much. By the way, I want to say something with guys who want to join and learn at LP4Y. If you are nervous about joining this program, let it go and don’t hesitate and join. You will see something special happen to your life. Now, let's talk about my-self a little. What did LP4Y bring for me? I was a man who did not know a lot of things such as speaking in front of a group in English, communicating with foreigners and above all who I wanted to become etc. I still remember the first time, I had a chance to talk about my family, to be introduced with our team but I didn’t say anything even though I prepared myself for it before. My emotion at this time was very very scary, my mouths couldn’t open and my legs couldn’t stop shaking. But, I tried many times and with the help of the coach, the result was better and better. To summarize, I never regretted when I decided to join LP4Y and also, I received more things than I expected from LP4Y. My experience at Decathlon For nearly 3 months, I have been working as a sport advisor at Decathlon’s company. Thanks to a successful internship, the company agreed to hire me as a sport advisor for a part-time job. At the same time, I still continue to go to the center and finish my program at LP4Y. During the work time, I have many experiences that are super great. Firstly, Decathlon is one of the biggest retailer companies about sport and has stayed in over fifty countries around the world and with over 80.000 employees. I am one of them and I am very proud of this. Secondly, Decathlon is a professional and dynamic environment with a staff very kind, friendly and willing to help other people when they need it. I am so excited when I am working here. Then, Decathlon has the products to practice more than 60 sports and has reasonable prices for all kinds of people who want to buy and neither me. Moreover, they have a great service. For example, the guarantee for each product for at least 2 years and during the guarantee time, the customer is able to return the product if it has a mistake and you can change it for a new one. When I am working at Decathlon, I am learning a lot of things such as how to discuss and deal with customers and how to sell the products, learn more about the products (this last one helps me to give the best advice to the customers!). Besides, I can learn how to organize and set up the layout, change it regularly and ensure it can adapt to the demand of the customers easily. It is very helpful for my life because I can also apply it for my life. Especially when I am working at Decathlon, they teach me about the vision of the company and I think it can help me for my future. Finally, I really love my company. I hope I can work here as long as possible and I will try my best to dedicate myself to the company. Current situation For nearly 3 months, I have been working as a sport advisor at Decathlon’s company. Thanks to a successful internship, the company agreed to hire me as a sport advisor for a part-time job. At the same time, I still continue to go to the center and finish my program at LP4Y. But now I can’t keep going to work because the novel coronavirus pandemic has continued to spread across the country and with some areas going under lockdown and my company is not excepted. I will go back to work for Decathlon when the pandemic will be over. For this reason I decided to come back to my hometown and restrict myself to go out if I don’t have demand to buy something necessary. In the lockdown time, I have a lot of free time to think about my future and what I need to prepare for it. I decided to learn more about english and how to get the IELTS 6.5 score. Indeed, I would like to go abroad in the future and work there. This time is the best time to learn. Besides, I can spend more time with my family and my relatives.
